This is a general guide for routine maintenance on your Mercury, Yamaha, Honda or Suzuki outboard engine. Consult your owners manual for your manufacturer's specific schedule.
1 Year / 100 Hours
- Change engine oil and filter
- Change lower unit oil
- Replace gaskets
- Change fuel filters
- Replace spark plugs
- Gap to spec
- Grease fittings on engine / grease prop shaft (Quicksilver 2-4-C)
- Inspect prop seal for fishing line / damage
- Spray engine block with anti-corrosion spray (CRC Heavy Duty Corrosion Inhibitor / Quicksilver Corrosion Guard)
- Spray rubber hoses with silicone spray (CRC Heavy Duty Silicone Spray)
3 Years / 300 Hours
- Replace water pump
- Replace thermostats
- Replace anodes
Winterization / Long Term Storage (Winterization Supplies)
- Fill fuel tank 95% full
- Stabilize fuel with storage fuel stabilizer / run motor to get stabilized fuel distributed through entire fuel system
- Change lower unit / moisture in gear lube can freeze and cause damage to your gear case
- Replace gaskets
- Fog engine
- Spray fogging oil into spark plug holes. Turn engine. Only spray fogging oil into intake on older 2 stroke motors.
If you only plan to service your engine once per year, Routine Marine recommends performing all servicing in the fall when you winterize.
